Anthony Ahiable, the Assemblyman for Wawaso/Wawaboi Electoral Area
Anthony Ahiable, the Assemblyman for the Wawaso/Wawaboi Electoral Area in the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, has been elected as the new Presiding Member (PM) of the Kadjebi District Assembly.
Out of the 51 Assembly Members present and voting, he secured 46 “Yes” votes, representing 90.2 per cent, while 5 voted “No,” representing 9.8 per cent.
This outcome followed a second round of voting, after Mr. Budu Boakye Danquah, the Assemblyman for the Asato Electoral Area, stepped down in Ahiable’s favour.
In the first round of voting, Ahiable received 29 votes, representing 56.8 per cent, while Budu polled 21 votes, representing 41.2 per cent. One ballot was rejected.
As neither candidate secured the required two-thirds majority of the votes cast, a second round of voting became necessary.
The election was conducted and supervised by Electoral Commission officials led by Mr. Justice Odame Frimpong, the Kadjebi District Electoral Officer.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Ahiable expressed gratitude to his colleagues for giving him the mandate.
He pledged to work closely with them to ensure the rapid development of the Kadjebi District.
The Presiding Member-elect promised to run an open-door administration, welcome constructive criticism, and support policies that will benefit the district.
Mr. George Wellington Arhin, Kadjebi District Magistrate, administered the Oath of Secrecy, the Oath of Office, and the Oath of Allegiance to Mr. Ahiable.
