The AI Collective has officially launched its first African chapter in Ghana, marking a significant milestone in the organisation’s global expansion. The newly formed AI Collective Ghana Chapter aims to promote responsible and inclusive adoption of artificial intelligence for social impact, economic growth, and sustainable development across Ghana and the wider region.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Kwami Ahiabenu, Chapter Lead and a member of the AI Collective Global Expansion Team, said:

“We are incredibly excited to launch the AI Collective Ghana Chapter, the first in Africa, which will serve as a dynamic platform to collaboratively harness AI’s transformative potential, driving productivity, profitability, and sustainable growth in Ghana, while aligning with global efforts to shape AI toward trust, openness, and human flourishing.”

To commemorate the launch, the Ghana Chapter hosted its inaugural event on Thursday, July 3, under the theme: “AI for Ghana’s Public Sector – Driving Innovation & Efficiency.” The event, held at Emerging Public Leaders Ghana in East Legon, Accra, brought together over 60 key stakeholders including public sector leaders, technologists, policymakers, and development partners.

Participants explored how artificial intelligence can revolutionise public governance and improve service delivery. The interactive session focused on practical strategies for integrating AI tools into Ghana’s public institutions to boost innovation, efficiency, and transparency.

Catherine McMillan, Founding Director of the AI Collective, noted:

“This launch marks a significant step in realising our core belief of AI for All — that every individual should have a stake and a voice in the responsible development of artificial intelligence. We’re thrilled to support Ghanaian innovators to create a future where AI uplifts communities and drives sustainable growth.”

The AI Collective is a non-profit, grassroots community that connects more than 70,000 pioneers—founders, researchers, operators, and investors—exploring the frontiers of artificial intelligence in major tech hubs around the world. Through events, workshops, and community-led research, the organisation seeks to empower the global AI ecosystem to shape a future defined by trust, openness, and human dignity.

The Ghana Chapter is expected to play a pivotal role in creating local opportunities, building capacity, and fostering collaboration across sectors to ensure AI is developed and applied in ways that benefit all Ghanaians.
