Akufo-Addo, Ofori-Atta largely to blame for NPP’s 2024 defeat — Global InfoAnalytics

Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been identified as a major factor in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Closely following him in blame is his cousin and former Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, along with the party’s 2024 flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; his running mate, Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh; and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

This was revealed in a national tracking poll conducted by independent research firm Global InfoAnalytics, which surveyed 7,915 respondents using the 2024 voters’ register as the frame.

“On the question of who should be blamed for NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general election, 68% of voters who responded to the question blame President Nana Akufo-Addo, 40% blame Hon. Ofori-Atta, 37% blame Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, 33% blame Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh, 32% blame other government appointees, 25% blame the MPs, and only 9% blame Kennedy Agyapong,” the report, published on Wednesday, April 2, stated.

The poll also found that 17% of voters who initially intended to vote for Dr. Bawumia changed their minds on election day.

“The poll also sought to explain why H.E John Mahama won the election by a landslide. The data suggests that Dr. Bawumia lost ground to John Mahama in the final weeks and days of the campaign.

“The poll shows that only 83% of voters who had intended to vote for him actually did so on election day. Nearly 14% switched their votes to Mahama on the day, according to polling data, while 3% broke away for other candidates,” the report found.

Meanwhile, the poll revealed that unlike in October 2024, 64% of voters now believe the country is heading in the right direction under President John Dramani Mahama.
