Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed as entirely false the claim that he has lobbied for changes to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming National Delegates Conference or its scheduled presidential primaries.
In a statement from his office, the former President made it clear that he has not authored any letter or made any suggestion to alter the party’s timeline, including the National Delegates Conference slated for July 19, 2025, or the January 31, 2026 date set for the presidential primaries.
The statement described recent speculation as misleading and politically mischievous, reaffirming Akufo-Addo’s full respect for the party’s constitution and established decision-making structures.
He also clarified that he did not attend the National Council meeting where the conference and primary dates were set, and that he will be absent from the July 19 conference as well. However, his presence will be felt symbolically.
“I have not commented on the dates, and I do not intend to do so,” Akufo-Addo stressed, adding that he plans to send a goodwill message to be read at the event.
Reacting to ongoing rumors within party circles, the former President urged all concerned party members to seek redress through the appropriate internal mechanisms rather than resorting to public speculation.
Akufo-Addo’s remarks appear aimed at calming tensions in a politically charged pre-conference atmosphere and distancing himself from any factional manoeuvring as the party prepares for a pivotal electoral cycle.
