The African Media and Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) has lauded the outgoing manager of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) for his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the fight against malaria in Ghana.

In a statement signed by AMMREN’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Charity Binka, the network praised the outgoing NMEP head for his visionary approach, tireless efforts, and commitment to transitioning Ghana’s malaria response from control to full elimination.

“Your commitment, vision, and tireless efforts have significantly advanced the malaria elimination agenda in Ghana,” the statement read.

“The progress made under your leadership, especially the reduction in malaria morbidity and mortality, is a testament to your dedication and collaborative spirit.”

AMMREN also acknowledged the pivotal role the outgoing manager played in strengthening partnerships with the media to enhance public awareness and drive behavioural change.

“We deeply value your unwavering belief in the power of the media as a critical partner in the fight against malaria. Your recognition of the media’s role in educating the public, influencing policy, and driving behavioural change has strengthened our partnership and inspired greater engagement from media professionals across the country,” the statement said.

As the NMEP undergoes a leadership transition, AMMREN extended its best wishes to the outgoing leader in his future endeavours and warmly welcomed Dr. Abiwu as the new Manager of the Programme.

“Please know that your legacy will continue to inspire us. We look forward to maintaining strong collaboration with the NMEP as we collectively work toward a malaria-free Ghana,” Dr. Binka added.

The National Malaria Elimination Programme remains a key institution in Ghana’s health architecture, working in collaboration with local and international partners to eradicate malaria—a disease that continues to affect millions across sub-Saharan Africa.

With this renewed commitment from AMMREN and a new leadership at the helm, the fight against malaria in Ghana enters a new phase of strategic collaboration, innovation, and impact.
