Anfoega Paramount Chief bans NDC activities over President Mahama DCE nominee

Anfoega Paramount Chief bans NDC activities over President Mahama DCE nominee

In an unexpected turn of events, the Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area has imposed an immediate ban on all activities of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) within his jurisdiction.

His decision stems from his disagreement with the nomination of a District Chief Executive (DCE) by President John Dramani Mahama.

Reports indicate that the chief issued the directive after feeling disregarded by the President and the NDC. Allegedly, he had personally appealed to the President to support the confirmation of Madam Solace Dzeble, a candidate from his traditional area. However, the President opted to nominate Mr. Ernest Adevoh instead.

Frustrated by this decision, the chief also barred two sub-chiefs—who serve as appointees of the North Dayi District Assembly—from participating in the voting process for the President’s nominee.

Despite his opposition, the confirmation process proceeded without disruption. Mr. Ernest Adevoh received overwhelming support, securing 30 out of 32 votes to become the new DCE.

In his acceptance speech, Hon. Ernest Adevoh pledged to work diligently for the progress of the district. He assured residents that, with the support of the area’s Member of Parliament, the President’s RESET agenda would be successfully implemented in the constituency.

Following the official confirmation, celebrations erupted throughout the district. Addressing the chief’s boycott of the process, the MP for North Dayi, Hon. Joycelyn Quashie, acknowledged the significant role chiefs play in fostering inclusivity and development. She expressed her commitment to engaging with the Paramount Chief, whom she referred to as a father figure, to find a resolution to the impasse.

On matters of development, she reiterated her readiness to collaborate with the newly confirmed DCE to ensure the district advances in the right direction for the benefit of its people.

The confirmation ceremony was attended by several high-profile regional executives of the NDC, including the Regional Minister, Regional Chairman, Regional Women’s Organizer, Regional Treasurer, and other key party officials.

As tensions subside and the President’s nominee assumes office, the lingering question remains: Will the MP’s efforts mend the rift between the traditional authority and the DCE? Only time will tell.
