The former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansah has rejected the narration that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 election because it presented Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer.
According to him, any attempt to push this agenda will be fiercely rejected.
“Some of us will not tolerate any agenda to push the blame from our 2024 defeat on the candidature of Dr Bawumia…we won’t sit down for those who have interest in leading the party to use Dr Bawumia as a scapegoat because of their ambition.
“We will resist any false narrative seeking to push the blame on Dr Bawumia. We should all respect ourselves and wait for the Party to conduct full investigations into the cause of the defeat and not rush to blame one person,” Mr. Nkansah said in a post on Facebook.
In his post, the former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme argued that all persons who served in President Akufo-Addo may have contributed to the defeat and not just Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
“The election was a referendum on our 8 years in power and some of our People decided not to vote for various reasons. From the President, Vice, Ministers, Board Chairs, CEOs, Appointees and all those who had direct or indirect power or influence during the 8 years, we all may have done something which contributed to the defeat,” Kofi Ofosu Nkansah shared.
His argument comes after a group of NPP in the Ashanti Region alleged that the party lost the 2024 general election because it presented Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate.
At a press conference by the group calling itself Concerned Traders of New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Kumasi, Benjamin Ofori who is the spokesperson for the group said Dr. Bawumia was the wrong candidate to lead the party.
“The assumption that Dr. Bawumia would secure the northern and Islamic votes did not materialise. Instead, the party suffered significant losses in these areas, eroding the gains the NPP had made since 1992,” Benjamin Ofori bemoaned.
