Appointments Committee dismisses petition against Justice Ackaah-Boafo; says it’s ‘worthless and unmeritorious’

The Appointments Committee of Parliament has dismissed a petition against the Supreme Court Justice nominee, Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo.

Justice Ackaah-Boafo’s vetting was earlier suspended on Wednesday, June 18 after a petition was submitted by one Anthony Kwabenya Rau, who accused the nominee of misconduct during a court proceeding.

According to the petition, Justice Ackaah-Boafo allegedly insulted and disrespected Mr. Rau, calling him “arrogant” and “power drunk.”

However, Justice Ackaah-Boafo has firmly denied the allegations.

Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Ahiafor on Friday June 20, 2025 ruled that the petition is “worthless and unmeritorious”, describing it as baseless in the face of the law.

He argued that the petitioner has only caused a delay in the Committee’s work by filing such a petition against the nominee.

Mr. Ahiafor noted that the Committee after due consideration and careful reading of the petition as well as the judgement on the petition concluded that “the allegations contained in the petition that the Judge has insulted and attacked the petitioner is completely unfounded.”

After ruling out the petition, he pronounced that the vetting of Justice Ackaah-Boafo would proceed.

“The complaint against the nominee is about the exercise of the judicial power in conducting the matter leading to judgement under reference.

“The Committee, this morning ruled that the petition is frivolous, vexatious, worthless, unmeritorious and it is baseless in law and the fact. It is a complete abuse of the process,” Ahiafor said.
