Asante Youth Association threatens massive demo over removal of KATH CEO

The Asante Youth Association (AYA) has threatened to march to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in the Ashanti Region following the removal of the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Professor Okyere Addai Mensah.

The youth are protesting the removal of the CEO, whom they believe has worked for the betterment of the facility.

Professor Mensah was relieved of his duties by President John Dramani Mahama recently.

The President has since appointed Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, the president of the Ghana Medical Association in the Ashanti Region, as the new CEO.

The group, in a press conference on Monday, May 5, 2025, addressed by its Vice President, Nana Oppong Boadi, expressed deep dissatisfaction with the dismissal of Professor Mensah.

They highlighted his significant contributions to the hospital, including the well-regarded ‘Heal Komfo Anokye Project’, which has brought notable improvements to healthcare services in the region.

The association urged the Asantehene to step in and ensure Professor Mensah continues his leadership role, emphasising that his work has had a positive impact on healthcare delivery in the region.
