In the wake of the assassination of the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region, Chief Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Asawase Zongo Community Chief, Shaibu Suleiman, has issued a public statement appealing for calm and cooperation with law enforcement.

Chief Azenbe was murdered at Asawase on the night of Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The statement, released by the Office of the Asawase Zongo Community Chief under the leadership of the Sarkin Zango Palace, expressed deep sorrow and condemnation for the tragic event.

Shaibu Suleiman extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community, and all residents of Zongo and beyond affected by the painful incident.

“We pray that Almighty Allah grants mercy to the departed soul and bestows comfort and strength upon his family and community in this time of grief,” the statement read.

The Asawase Zongo Community Chief respectfully appealed to the entire Zongo community and the general public to remain calm and peaceful, allowing security agencies the necessary space and cooperation to conduct thorough investigations.

The statement urged residents to assist authorities with credible information that may lead to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the heinous act.

The statement also called on security services to carry out their duties with professionalism, diligence, and urgency to bring the perpetrators to justice and reassure the public of their safety.

The statement further acknowledged the swift response of the Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka; and the MCE for Asokore Mampong Municipality, Ben Abdallah Alhassan, in providing leadership to ensure justice is served without compromising the peace of the populace.

Shaibu Suleiman advised all Zongo indigenes and settlers across Kumasi and the Ashanti Region to uphold peace and shun all forms of violence, urging them to heed the wise counsel of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, who continues to provide an enabling environment for peaceful coexistence among diverse communities in the region.

“Let us not allow this tragedy to sow seeds of division or unrest. The strength of our community lies in our unity, discipline, and adherence to the teachings of peace in Islam and the values of mutual respect and tolerance,” he emphasised.

The statement concluded with a prayer for peace, justice, and divine guidance and protection.
