Ashaiman MP Dr Nogbey says education must remain accessible for the poor

Ashaiman MP Dr Ernest Nogbey is urging young people to pursue higher education, describing it as essential for personal growth and national development.

His remarks come after being awarded a PhD in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.

“It’s a joyful moment,” he said. “In your academic ladder, if you can climb to this stage…I’m so happy that today, at long last, Ernest Nogbey has a PhD and will be called a doctor.”

Dr Nogbey emphasised that poverty should never be a barrier to education.

“Education has no limit. No matter the situation or where you find yourself, you must be able to push forward and educate yourself to reach greater heights,” he said.

“Even as an MP, I’m still heavily involved in the educational sector. I encourage my constituents, especially the youth, not to let poverty stop them from continuing their education. It is the foundation of survival for every human being.”

He also stressed that education empowers individuals to make meaningful contributions to society.

“You must pursue education at every level so that, ultimately, your efforts and impact will be felt. It sharpens your mental ability and builds the resilience needed to serve your country in many ways.”

Reflecting on his area of specialisation, Nogbey highlighted the role of procurement in tackling corruption.

“About 80 to 90 per cent of corruption in this country is linked to procurement,” he said.

“That’s why I chose procurement—it will shape how I think and act, and it will guide me in helping to reduce corrupt practices in Ghana.”

He ended with a message of hope and encouragement to the youth.

“They shouldn’t lose hope. They should keep going in whatever path they choose in education. They should strive to upgrade themselves, and one day, like I have, they too could earn a PhD in their chosen field.”
