Healthcare delivery in the Asuonwunu community of the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region has received a major boost following the donation of essential medical equipment to the local health center.
The support, valued at several hundred Ghana cedis, was provided by Kosmos Energy in partnership with U.S.-based nonprofit Medical Bridges. The donation includes maternity beds, an ultrasound probe cover machine, EKG/ECG pads, a probe microscope, surgical scissors, dissecting and splint forceps, dressing cuffs, adult blood pressure monitors, and a range of medical consumables.
The gesture follows an appeal made by the Chief of Asuonwunu, Nana Achina Kwagyan V, who called on the organizations to support the facility.
The items were officially handed over on Saturday, July 20, 2024, through the Ghana Catholic Health Services.
At the ceremony, Nana Achina Kwagyan V expressed deep appreciation to the donors, describing the intervention as transformative.
“This is a game-changer that will improve healthcare delivery in our community,” he said. He further urged the health center’s management to maintain the equipment properly to ensure it serves the community for many years.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the facility, the District Health Director, Pharmacist Bernard Badu Bediako, praised both Kosmos Energy and Medical Bridges for their support. He also acknowledged the continuous advocacy of the chief on behalf of the health center.
Pharm. Bediako noted that the new equipment would serve hundreds of people from surrounding communities, as the Asuonwunu Health Center handles referrals from all nearby CHPS compounds.
He assured stakeholders that the items would be put to good use, and thanked everyone involved in making the donation possible.
