Ahead of the 2025 Budget presentation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has met with market women, including head porters, also known as “kayayei,” and other vendors in Makola Market, to hear about their expectations and concerns.

Dr. Forson recognized the vital role these traders play in maintaining Ghana’s economy and described the encounter as a privilege.

“It was a privilege to interact with these hardworking Ghanaians who break their backs daily to support our economy.

“Friends, We Just concluded an insightful engagement with market women, kayayei, and others at Makola Market. It was a privilege to interact with these hardworking Ghanaians who break their backs daily to support our economy. Their expectations ahead of #Budget2025,” a report by citinewsroom.com quoted the Minister of Finance as saying.

With him on the visit was his deputy, Thomas Nyarko Ampem., The discussions centered vital economic challenges affecting small-scale traders, including inflation, taxation, and access to credit.

The traders were reassured by Dr. Forson that their worries will be taken into account when formulating the next budget’s measures.

“Their expectations ahead of Budget 2025 will help shape our shared future.”
