The African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) has appointed Frank B. Adu Jr. as its first Chancellor, following the recent conferment of a Presidential Charter on the university.

A highly respected Ghanaian leader with a rich legacy in banking, education, governance, and civic life, Adu’s appointment reflects the university’s strong commitment to excellence, integrity, and relevance in today’s fast-changing world.

Frank B. Adu Jr. is widely regarded as a transformative leader with over three decades of experience across banking, corporate leadership, education, and community service. As former Managing Director and CEO of CAL Bank PLC, he led the bank through 20 years of strong growth and innovation, earning a reputation as one of Ghana’s most respected financial minds.

Beyond finance, Adu currently serves on the boards of major organisations, including Legacy Bonds Limited, Quality Insurance Company Limited, GAB Health Insurance, University of Ghana Enterprises and Mojo Payments, contributing to sectors like fintech, healthcare, education, and insurance.

As a strong advocate for education and youth development, Adu is also the Chairman and Co-Founder of The Roman Ridge School, one of Ghana’s leading private schools. His dedication to education earned him an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Ghana in 2013, and in 2021, he received an Honorary Membership from the Ghana Institute of Architects for his role in supporting architectural development.

Adu is the current President and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Achimota Golf Club and has previously served as Captain and President of the Accra Polo Club, roles that reflect his passion for sport and community involvement.

As Chancellor of AUCB, Adu will help shape the university’s future and support its mission to train ethical, forward-thinking leaders in communications and business. His passion for mentoring young people aligns perfectly with AUCB’s vision of producing graduates who lead with both skill and integrity.

The African University of Communications and Business offers postgraduate, undergraduate, diploma and professional development courses. It was established as the Africa Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC) in 2002 by Hon. Kojo Yankah. Initially offering a Diploma in Communication Studies, it gained accreditation as a tertiary institution in 2004.

In 2007, AIJC received approval to offer BA degrees, transforming into AUCC, the first university college in Africa specialising in Journalism and Communication Studies. Since 2010, the university has expanded to include BSc programs in Business Administration and postgraduate programs in communications and business administration. In 2024, the university received a Presidential Charter, which allows it to offer its own academic programs and degrees.

To enhance learning and research, AUCB has established three centres: Kwabena Nketia Centre for Africana Studies, Ama Ata Aidoo Centre for Creative Writing and a Business and Professional Development Centre.
