Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to former President John Dramani Mahama, has taken strong legal action against Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye and the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), over comments she describes as defamatory and damaging to her reputation.
In a legal notice dated April 3, 2025, and issued by R.O. Solomon Consulting, Mrs. Mogtari demands an unqualified apology and a compensation of GH₵10 million.
The letter refers to a March 26 appearance by Abronye on Net 2 TV, during which he is alleged to have made several “false, reckless, and malicious” claims. Among these, Abronye reportedly alleged that Mrs. Mogtari declined a ministerial appointment and instead chose what he called a “stress-free presidential staffer position” with a monthly salary of GH₵95,000. He is also said to have accused her of becoming “disrespectful to Ghanaians.”
Mrs. Mogtari’s legal team argues that these statements are not only factually incorrect but also deliberately misleading. They state that the details surrounding her public service role are not classified and could have easily been verified. Instead, they claim the remarks were made without due diligence and have since caused her significant personal and professional harm.
According to the letter, the comments have been widely disseminated online through platforms such as GhanaWeb, prompting a wave of negative reactions, public ridicule, and inquiries from both the media and the general public. Her lawyers maintain that the reputational damage has been severe, as the allegations continue to circulate across various news outlets and social media.
The legal team is demanding an immediate and public retraction of the statements, along with a formal apology to be published on all the platforms that carried the original broadcast or subsequent reports, including Net 2 TV, GhanaWeb, MyJoyOnline, Channel One TV, and Citi FM. In addition, they are seeking GH₵10 million in compensation for the harm caused to Mrs. Mogtari’s image and standing.
The notice concludes by cautioning that failure to meet these demands will result in legal action for defamation.
