Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lauded the Ghana Fire Service for their swift response to the devastating fire that swept through the Kumasi market, leaving several traders counting their losses.
The fire, which erupted in the early hours of Friday, March 21, in the Adum area of the Ashanti Region, destroyed multiple shops and properties, causing distress among business owners.
Visiting the affected site on Tuesday, March 25, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the critical role played by the firefighters in containing the inferno. He commended them for their dedication, stating that they had done a “yeoman’s job” in preventing further destruction.
In addition to recognizing the efforts of the fire service, Dr. Bawumia expressed deep sympathy for the traders whose livelihoods were impacted. He assured them of his support as they work towards rebuilding their businesses.
“I understand the pain and losses you have suffered, and it is my sincere hope that the support provided will assist you in recovering from this tragic incident,” he said.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the vulnerabilities of commercial hubs to fire outbreaks and the urgent need for improved safety measures to protect traders and their businesses.
