Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, has thrown his full support behind the party’s parliamentary hopeful for Ablekuma North, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, by donating GH₵410,000 to fuel her campaign for the re-run of 19 polling stations.
Nana Akua is defying the party’s official position to boycott the re-run. She insists she won the parliamentary election held on December 7, 2024, and is confident the re-run will only confirm the mandate she believes was clearly handed to her by voters.
Dr. Bawumia’s financial intervention is seen as a significant morale booster for Nana Akua and her campaign team as they intensify efforts to retain the seat for the NPP.
Sources close to the former Vice President say he views the support not just as a political gesture, but as a commitment to protecting the NPP’s stake in a race that remains critical despite the party’s withdrawal from the re-run.
The upcoming vote was triggered after security disturbances disrupted the collation of results in the affected polling stations during the 2024 general election.
