Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has firmly rejected claims that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s early concession in the 2024 presidential race disrupted the collation of parliamentary results in some constituencies.
His comments were in direct response to former Tamale Central MP, Inusah Fuseini, who recently suggested that Bawumia’s swift acceptance of defeat, before the Electoral Commission had officially announced the presidential results, triggered confusion and distracted attention from the ongoing collation of parliamentary votes, particularly in hotspots like Ablekuma North.
Fuseini had alleged that the concession undermined the electoral process and created the impression of a sweeping NPP loss, which could have contributed to disarray during the final stages of parliamentary collation.
But Haruna Mohammed, speaking on Channel One TV’s ‘The Big Issue’ on Saturday, July 12, dismissed the claim as baseless and illogical.
“It’s very difficult to get it and say that it was because of the early concession,” he argued. “It cannot… His concession was a contributory factor.”
Mohammed went further to completely detach Bawumia’s concession from the confusion cited by Fuseini, stressing: “In my opinion, it was not a contributory factor to what happened.”
His response highlights growing political disagreements over the NPP’s 2024 election performance and the internal narratives shaping post-election analysis.
