Be patient as we work to deliver reliable, affordable communication services — NCA to Ghanaians

The Acting Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), Rev. Ing. Edmund Yirenkyi Fianko, has called on Ghanaians to exercise patience as the Authority works with stakeholders to improve the quality, security, and affordability of communication services in the country.

He made the appeal during the national commemoration of the 2025 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day held in Accra on Monday, May 19, under the theme “Gender equality in digital transformation.”

Rev. Yirenkyi Fianko acknowledged public concerns about data costs, poor service quality, and unjustified tariffs, but said measures are underway to resolve the issues holistically.

“We will send an advisory to the Minister [for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation] in due course on these matters, and I would like to request consumers to be patient as we work together in their long-term interest to deliver reliable, secure, high-quality and affordable communication services in Ghana,” he said.

According to him, the Authority has adopted a more consumer-centred approach in dealing with operators.

He disclosed that NCA is intensifying monitoring on service quality, billing verification, device testing, and complaints management.

“Our primary focus is on service improvement and consumer satisfaction, and not sanctions. However, where we see lethargy and non-responsiveness in addressing consumer issues, we will apply the necessary sanctions forcefully,” he cautioned.

Rev. Yirenkyi Fianko also urged the public to support the erection of telecom masts in their communities, explaining that the closer one is to a mast, the better their service.

“Another help we require from the public is sites for telecom masts. The sites are necessary to improve mobile coverage and service quality,” he said.
