The National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has weighed in on the ongoing controversy surrounding alleged drug trafficking to and from Ghana.
He criticized the government for being reactive rather than proactive in addressing critical security concerns, urging authorities to take preventive measures instead of waiting to respond after issues have been raised.
In a social media post on Wednesday, April 2, Mr. Ahiagbah commended the NPP Minority Caucus for bringing the matter to public attention.
“This government must be proactive rather than reactive about the burgeoning drug activities in Ghana. I commend the NPP Minority for keeping their eye on the ball,” he wrote on X.
The Minority Caucus in Parliament has called for full disclosure from the National Security Ministry regarding the contents of two private jets accused of transporting cocaine and large sums of cash through Ghana.
At a press conference, Assin South MP Rev. John Ntim Fordjour raised concerns over the arrival and departure of Air Med Flight N823AM and Cavok Air Antonov 12B, which landed at Kotoka International Airport in March 2025.
According to the Minority, intelligence suggests that the aircraft, which arrived from Grand Canaria, Spain—a known drug trafficking hub—may have carried illicit cargo.
Following the press conference, President John Dramani Mahama, in a Facebook post, directed investigative agencies to work with the MP to establish the facts and provide a briefing.
The President emphasized that his government takes all allegations seriously and will ensure that Ghana is not used as a transit or final destination for drug trafficking.
