Member of Parliament for the Binduri Constituency, Issifu Mahmoud Esq., has lauded the Ghana Armed Forces for their swift and decisive operation in the area, which led to the seizure of a cache of sophisticated weapons and ammunition, as well as the arrest of suspects believed to be linked to recent unrest in the region.
In an official statement issued on Sunday, June 15, 2025, the MP described the operation as a bold and commendable step in the ongoing effort to restore peace and public safety in the violence-stricken constituency.
“I wish to commend the Ghana Armed Forces for their swift operation this afternoon in the Binduri Constituency, leading to the confiscation of sophisticated weapons, ammunitions and the arrest of suspects linked to the recent insecurity in the area,” he stated.
The Binduri District has been on edge following weeks of heightened tension, marked by deadly clashes, gun violence, and property destruction. The recent military operation forms part of a broader security response aimed at restoring calm to the Upper East Region.
Issifu Mahmoud emphasized that the successful confiscation of weapons signals the military’s strong resolve to secure the area and protect civilians from further harm. He also called on the Ghana Police Service to follow up promptly with thorough investigations and legal action against the suspects.
“I urge the Ghana Police Service to act promptly by ensuring a thorough investigation and prosecution of those involved to deter future incidents,” the statement read.
The MP appealed to residents to cooperate with the security agencies and to maintain calm as efforts to stabilise the community intensify.
“I encourage all residents of Binduri to remain calm and support the security services in their efforts to restore lasting peace to our community,” he added.
His remarks come at a time when fear and uncertainty have gripped residents, especially students writing the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), some of whom have had to be transported under special security arrangements due to the volatile environment.
The MP’s message is being viewed as a timely reassurance of ongoing efforts to address the violence and as a call for unity in confronting the threats to peace in the region.
