
Residents of Atsugbor in the Anloga District of the Volta Region were in shock and panic after a body of a man believed to be in his 40s was washed ashore in the area.
The tragic incident happened on Friday, June 20, at about 1345 hours.
Mr. James Fiati, the Assembly Member of the Area, in a interview with the Ghana News Agency, said the incident has sent a shocking wave with many calling for a a thorough investigation to unravel the cause of the death.
“I receive a call from one of the elders from the community about the tragic incident at around 1345 thereabout, which l also alert others to rash to the scene to identify the deceased,” he said.
He explained that other information gathered revealed that a drowning incident involving some fisherfolks from Ada has happened at Fuveme near Anloga township where fishermen were missing.
He said a message has been sent to the Ada fisherfolks’ association to come for the identity of the deceased since investigations down so far indicated that the deceased could not have come from the area.
“This is not the first time this kind of incident is happening here, and we need the authorities and the fishing associations to investigate this well and advice fishers on it.”
He explained that other fisherfolks at various electoral area were also notified about the shocking incident and called for the public, families and friends of the deceased for identification.
Mr. Fiati said that a report has been logged to the Anloga police who conveyed the body of the deceased to Keta Municipality hospital morgue for further examination and autopsy.
He urged residents to remain camp and assist police in their investigation to uncover the cause of the tragic incident and appealed to the fishermen to take caution during their fishing.
