Francis Owusu-Antwi is the Bono East Regional Minister
The Bono East Region is set to benefit from the construction of dedicated cattle ranches as part of strategic efforts to address ongoing conflicts between nomadic herders and local farmers.
The proposed ranching model forms part of a broader livestock policy reform aimed at ending the cycle of violent clashes, which in recent years have led to the loss of lives, destruction of farmlands, and the displacement of families. These incidents have prompted urgent calls from residents for swift government intervention to prevent further escalation.
According to the Bono East Regional Minister, Francis Owusu-Antwi, the cattle ranching project, which will feature proper water supply systems and pasturelands, is expected to promote lasting peace between farmers and herders once completed.
“We believe the time has come to take bold and decisive actions to address the farmer-herder conflict in the region. The establishment of cattle ranches will ensure that herders no longer encroach on farmlands, while farmers can work without fear of attacks or crop destruction,” Mr. Owusu-Antwi stated.
The Regional Minister further noted that the Bono East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), in collaboration with the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has already acquired several acres of land under the Cattle Improvement Project in the Kintampo Municipality for the initiative.
“I am reliably informed that the RCC, in collaboration with the Agriculture Ministry, has secured land in Kintampo for the cattle ranch. Very soon, the project will take off,” he added.
