Ghana to rekindle rivalry with Nigeria at Brentford’s Gtech Stadium, London in the 2025 Unity Cup tournament.
The Unity Cup, an Afro-Caribbean international football competition, is set to make a triumphant return after a 21-year hiatus.
Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium has been chosen to host this prestigious event in May 2025, featuring top-notch teams from Ghana, Jamaica, Nigeria, and Trinidad and Tobago.
The tournament will feature two semi-final games and a championship match, with all three fixtures taking place at Brentford’s Gtech Community Stadium.
Nigeria, two-time winners of the Unity Cup, will play against arch rivals Ghana in the second semi-final on Wednesday, 28 May.
The other semifinal fixture will be on Tuesday, 27 May, with the Caribbean derby where Trinidad and Tobago will lock horns with Jamaica in the battle for supremacy.
The final round of matches will be held on Saturday, 31 May, featuring a third-place playoff followed by the final to decide the 2025 Unity Cup champion.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Brentford club ambassador and former Jamaica international Marcus Gayle expressed his excitement about reviving the event.
“We are excited for the return of the Unity Cup and so proud to host the tournament at Gtech Community Stadium.
“This tournament will not only bring together elite footballing talent from Africa and the Caribbean but also celebrate the deep cultural and sporting connections between these nations.
“This is a great opportunity for the world to see the thriving talent of these players. We look forward to the entertainment the Unity Cup brings and seeing the tournament make its mark once again.”
Originally launched in 2002 with the iconic ‘NiJam’ clash between Nigeria and Jamaica, the Unity Cup has become a symbol of unity and cultural pride through football.
This year marks its third edition and the first time four teams will compete in the tournament’s history.
Beyond the competition, the event serves as vital preparation for all teams ahead of their respective World Cup qualifiers later this year.
