A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Razak Kojo Opoku, has condemned what he describes as a calculated smear campaign aimed at discrediting Dr. Bryan Acheampong, a leading contender in the party’s 2028 presidential race.
Dr. Opoku, a key strategist for the Bryan Acheampong for President campaign, took to Facebook on Tuesday to sound the alarm over what he called a “Character Assassination Strategy (CAS)” being deployed by rivals within the political space.
“An unstable competitor would always deploy Character Assassination Strategy towards you whenever you are becoming a threat to his ambition or an evil planned agenda,” he stated.
He insisted that these underhanded attacks are a sign of desperation from those threatened by Dr. Acheampong’s growing stature and credibility, both within the NPP and across the national political landscape.
Despite the distractions, Dr. Opoku maintained that Dr. Bryan Acheampong remains undeterred and continues to demonstrate the leadership qualities that make him the most suitable candidate to lead the party into the future.
“Despite the distractions, Dr. Bryan Acheampong remains focused, disciplined, and results-driven. He still remains the best choice,” Dr. Opoku emphasised.
His remarks come at a time of heightened internal competition within the NPP, as attention begins to shift toward the party’s next presidential flagbearer. Dr. Acheampong, a former Minister for Food and Agriculture under President Nana Akufo-Addo, is increasingly viewed as a frontrunner.
Dr. Opoku called on party loyalists and the broader public to reject malicious attacks disguised as political criticism, warning that such tactics threaten to derail internal unity and distract from the party’s long-term goals.
He urged NPP members to stay focused on promoting capable leadership and to shield the party’s internal discourse from negativity and sabotage.
