A 40-year-old businessman, Nurudeen Abdul Ganew, has been dragged before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly impersonating Professor Joshua Alabi, a senior figure in the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to defraud Council of State member and NDC Twifo-Atti Morkwa Constituency Chairman, Hakeem Addae, of GH¢60,000.
Ganew has been charged with impersonation and defrauding by false pretences, while his brothers, Nurudeen Rashid and Nurudeen Gafaru, are facing additional charges of conspiracy to commit crime. All three have pleaded not guilty.
Presiding judge Mrs. Sedinam Awo Kwadam granted each of the accused persons bail to the tune of GH¢150,000 with three sureties. The case has been adjourned to July 21, 2025.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on March 3, when Ganew posed as an official from the Ghana Revenue Authority and convinced Mr. Addae that he could facilitate the acquisition of auctioned vehicles, including a Toyota Land Cruiser and trucks.
Ganew was later arrested at his residence in Wa, where law enforcement recovered four identification cards, three pen drives, four mobile phones, and GH¢14,896 in cash.
Following his arrest, his brothers were picked up in Wenchi. A search of their premises revealed 12 mobile phones, several SIM cards, and a comprehensive list of political party executives across all 16 regions — believed to be part of a broader fraud target list.
Investigators allege the three operated as a syndicate, impersonating high-profile individuals to defraud unsuspecting victims, including chiefs, queen mothers, and prominent business figures.
Ganew is said to have spearheaded the scheme by initiating contact with victims, while his brothers coordinated mobile money withdrawals from locations including Wa, Wenchi, Sunyani, Techiman, Koforidua, and Accra.
