Buying sanitary pads for schoolgirls not an achievement – Obiri Boahen jabs Mahama

Former Deputy General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen, has taken a swipe at President John Dramani Mahama, criticising his decision to distribute sanitary pads to school girls during the first 120 days of his presidency.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based Original TV, he described the initiative as a “misplaced priority.”

He argued that while Mahama was focused on distributing sanitary pads, leaders in neighbouring countries were making impactful strides in national development.

He pointed to the Interim Burkina Faso President Ibrahim Traoré as an example, stating that the country is transforming its new leadership, contrasting it with what he termed as Mahama’s symbolic and ineffective gesture.

“This is not an achievement,” he said. “The President of Burkina Faso is transforming his country. If you compare that to buying sanitary pads for school girls, it’s clearly a misplaced priority.”
