President John Dramani Mahama has announced that Cabinet has given the green light for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Bill, popularly known as the Mahama Cares Fund, to be forwarded to Parliament for deliberation and passage.
The Fund, a key campaign promise of the President, is designed to ease the financial burden on individuals battling chronic illnesses by providing direct medical support.
Speaking at a brief ceremony at the Presidency on Friday, President Mahama confirmed the Cabinet approval as he received a GH₵1 million donation from the 11 agencies operating under the Ministry for the Interior in support of the initiative.
“This Fund is an important step toward ensuring no Ghanaian is left behind because they cannot afford life-saving treatment,” the President noted.
The cheque was presented on behalf of the Interior Ministry agencies by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohuno.
The Mahama Cares Fund has already begun attracting national attention and support, with contributions from public institutions seen as a strong endorsement of its mission to deliver compassionate, inclusive healthcare to those most in need.
