Camping set to begin on May 25 – Black Stars Management chair reveals

Black Stars management Committee chairman, Dr. Randy Abbey has revealed that preparations for the forthcoming Unity Cup tournament will begin on Sunday, May 25.

Ghana are set to take on rivals Nigeria on May 28 as part of a four nation tournament.

Ghana will participate in the competition alongside, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobego and Jamaica, as part of a broader plan to prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in September and October.

Although the season is yet to conclude for most Ghanaian players in Europe’s top five leagues, Dr. Randy Abbey provided an insight into the team’s itinerary while speaking to 3Sports.

“We had a meeting with the management committee, and the team will assemble in London on the 25th.”

“They would have three training sessions before the first game on the 28th against Nigeria.”

Speaking on team news and squad expectations, Dr Randy Abbey added.

“There are quite a number of players who are injured. There are a few players who are also engaged in qualifying games for Europe and so their clubs won’t release them. Mind you, this period is outside the FIFA free period.”

“And so, for those whose leagues will still be in session, and they are still in contention, they might not be available plus the injured players.”

Ghana will seek to avenge their 2-1 defeat to Nigeria in March 2024 when the two sides square off in London.
