What an easy question but difficult to answer, thus, “can money easily buy the Ghanaian politician?”
Being a native Ghanaian with much experience as the kindred of Ghanaian politicians, it shouldn’t pose any difficulty to me answering the question in the blink of an eye.
It is not a perception but very factual the propensity for the Ghanaian politician cum their traditional leaders unwisely overtly stretching their hands to accept offers of all sorts from “influencers”. They see politics as an arena for acquiring illegal wealth, fame, and power, at the crack of their fingers hence always ready to take any offers that come their way without thinking about the consequences of their actions to their country, community, etc., later.
How come that a whole president of the republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, openly prostrates to a self-styled or self-made Ibo “king”, right in the heart of Ghana, thus, Accra, addressing him as “Your Royal Highness”?
This Ibo man in Ghana sauntering about the streets of Accra wearing a kingly crown has no monarchical roots anywhere from his country of origin, Nigeria.
How come that he comes to Ghana, acquire a huge land in Accra and suddenly Ghanaian politicians and traditional leaders have started worshipping him as king, bowing to him, and doing his bidding?
Is it not because of his money and how he has probably been able to grease the stinky palms of our politicians and traditional leaders with wads of US dollars, Naira, or Cedis?
Are my Ghanaian politicians and traditional leaders that myopic and without any love of Ghana at heart but just the quest for quick buck all the time?
Are not these Nigerians who always take Ghanaians for fools whenever and wherever they interact, assume that they are a few inches taller than the Ghanaian? Don’t they see and take our leniency for our stupidity hence always looking down upon us?
Yes, we have Ghanaians self-styling as community or tribal chiefs abroad, but they don’t carry any weight unlike the Ibo “king” in Ghana who has got some of our politicians including the president in his pocket all because of his ability to influence them financially.
By the time I wake up from my slumber, this Ibo “king” will have taken over the entire country similarly as the Chinese are doing.
Ghanaians, we shall very soon become strangers in our land of birth if we choose to continue in the path of foolishness as our leaders are charting for us.
The writer is strictly against the degree or level of influence the Ibo “king” is wielding in Ghana. Ghanaians can never behave the way Nigerians do in Ghana when they go to live in Nigeria. If they did, they would be minced meat in a twinkle of the eye.
Continue to be sleeping, twirling your fingers sitting on the fence and you will wake bound in chains of slavery by your fellow black Africans.
Over to you Ghanaians!
