CCTV captured Adu Boahene’s wife carting suspected cash after his arrest – Deputy AG tells court

CCTV footage has captured the wife of embattled former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, carting suitcases suspected to contain foreign currency following his arrest.

This was revealed in court by Deputy Attorney General Dr. Justice Srem Sai on Friday, March 28, 2025.

Dr. Srem Sai, presenting the case in an Accra Human Rights Court, argued that Angela Adjei Boateng’s actions suggested an attempt to destroy crucial evidence linked to the alleged embezzlement of state funds. The footage reportedly shows her hurriedly handling the suitcases on the night she was notified of her husband’s arrest.

The case against Adu Boahene stems from allegations that he misappropriated funds from a $7 million cyber defence contract signed between Ghana and Israeli firm RLC Holdings Limited in 2020.

Investigations suggest that, instead of funding the critical national security project, a significant portion of the money was diverted for personal use.

According to the Attorney General’s office, on February 6, 2020—just days after finalizing the contract—Adu Boahene allegedly transferred GH¢27.1 million from the NSB’s Fidelity Bank account into a private UMB account under BNC, a company he co-owns with his wife. The funds were reportedly laundered through real estate investments both locally and internationally.

Following their arrest, their legal team challenged the initial bail conditions, claiming they were excessive.

On Friday, the court reduced Adu Boahene’s bail from GH¢120 million to GH¢80 million, with two sureties, one to be justified.

However, his wife’s bail remains at GH¢80 million. The couple has also been placed under movement restrictions and must report to EOCO three times a week.

Despite the bail reduction, the prosecution insists the couple poses a flight risk, alleging they may possess foreign passports aside from their Ghanaian ones.
