Police in Central Tongu have uncovered additional human remains and disturbing items during an extended search operation tied to the ongoing investigation into the ritual murder of Nelson Anyana.

In the latest development, officers from the Adidome District Police Command, supported by the Homicide Unit, the Crime Scene Unit, and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), raided another shrine located at Mafi Awakpedome, a community near Adidome in the Central Tongu District.

This operation follows the earlier arrest of six suspects, including members of the Gblor Family, in connection with the killing.

The Awakpedome shrine is reportedly linked to two of the suspects: Courage Bedzo, alias Dzidefo, a kente weaver, and Wisdom Hedidor, a herbalist.

Investigators discovered more human remains buried beneath idols in the shrine.

These included human skulls, ribs, leg, and arm bones.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA), present during the operation, observed a disturbing collection of items, including a Bible, boxes stuffed with paper resembling some currencies

There was a photograph of a young female believed to be a resident of Adidome.

This latest find comes days after the police stormed the shrines of the Gblor siblings, all of whom are already in custody.

The three were named and linked to the murder of Anyana for ritual purposes, allegedly orchestrated in collaboration with Augustina Fiawoyife, Courage Bedzo, and Wisdom Hedidor.

Authorities have expressed shock over the discoveries, calling the acts “barbaric” and assuring the public of swift justice.

“We will not rest until every ritual ground is investigated and cleared. The safety of our people is our utmost priority,” a police officer told GNA.

Torgbe Awudza Adabla XV, the Awafiaga of Mafi Traditional Council and the Paramount Chief of Mafi Awakpedome, condemned the act and called for vigilance in the area.

He said that the traditional council has given its full support to the police to unearth every criminal activity under the pretence of practicing herbal medicine.

Torgbe Adabla mentioned also that the traditional leaders would undertake assist the police in their investigations and ensure that such acts did not recur in the area.

Suspects in the heinous murder of Anyana, already in police custody, have been charged with abetment of crime, murder, and conspiracy to commit crime.

They are expected to be arraigned in the coming days with the findings of the security team and investigators.

Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain calm, cooperate with the police, and report any suspicious spiritual or criminal activity within their communities.

Police say investigations would continue across the district as they sought to dismantle any network of ritual activity endangering lives in the area.

Nelson Anyana went missing on December 4, 2024, and investigations have so far revealed ritual murder led by Agustina Fiawoyife, the girlfriend of the deceased, and her two friends, Courage Bedzo and Wisdom Hedidor.

The Gblor siblings offered to buy the deceased’s body for GHC7,000 for ritual purposes, but police investigations have so far led to the arrest of the suspects assisting with the investigations.
