The National Chief Imam, Dr. Sheik Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has commended the executives and members of AcrossFaiths Foundation Ghana for organizing the 2025 edition of the United Nations World Interfaith Harmony Week in the country.

The United Nations General Assembly designated the first week of February as World Interfaith Harmony Week in 2010 to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among people of different faiths. This year marked the first time Ghana formally commemorated the global event since its inception, with AcrossFaiths Foundation Ghana spearheading the initiative.

The week-long event, observed globally from February 1 to 7, aimed to foster peace, unity, and collaboration among individuals of different religious backgrounds. The commemoration in Ghana brought together Christians, Muslims, and traditional authorities under one umbrella to worship together, promote mutual respect, and contribute to national peace and development.

Beyond worship sessions, the foundation organized symposiums for selected basic and secondary schools in Accra, providing young people with a platform to engage with religious leaders and scholars on the importance of religious tolerance and coexistence in a diverse society.

Emphasizing the connection between faith and environmental stewardship, the foundation also launched an “Interfaith Action against Climate Change” initiative. As part of this effort, students, teachers, clergy members, and traditional leaders participated in a symbolic tree-planting exercise aimed at inspiring faith communities to take an active role in environmental conservation.

The recognition by the National Chief Imam highlights the foundation’s dedication to fostering peace, unity, and harmony among Ghana’s diverse religious groups. AcrossFaiths Foundation has been at the forefront of interfaith dialogue, working closely with representatives from the Christian Council, Traditional Councils, and the Office of the National Chief Imam.

The foundation’s commitment to promoting tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect aligns with the National Chief Imam’s longstanding advocacy for religious harmony. His commendation underscores the importance of interfaith collaboration in strengthening national cohesion and fostering lasting peace.
