Former Deputy Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, has stated that suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo is entirely within her rights to contest every aspect of the constitutional process aimed at her removal from office.
During an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme on Saturday, 24th May, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah highlighted that the Chief Justice, like any other citizen, has the right to a fair hearing.
“She has the right to challenge every single step of the process if she feels her constitutional rights are being violated,” he remarked.
Mr. Tuah-Yeboah further noted that the Supreme Court is the appropriate forum for addressing such legal issues and ensuring the correct interpretation of constitutional procedures.
In discussing the role of former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame, who now represents the Chief Justice, Tuah-Yeboah clarified that Dame is free to accept cases as he chooses.
“He is no longer the Attorney General. As a private attorney, he can take on any case that comes his way,” he explained.
He also emphasised that the suspended Chief Justice has the freedom to select her legal representation in court.
“Just as the state can choose its lawyers, the Chief Justice can also appoint someone she trusts to represent her,” Mr. Tuah-Yeboah pointed out.
