The chiefs of the Adele, Akyode, and Challa communities have commenced peace talks aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict at Nkwanta in the Oti Region.

The initiative, led by Nana Monfankye Amanfo (Adele), Nana Okajah (Akyode), and Nana Kidesa Okunte (Challa), represents a significant step toward ending a dispute that has persisted for over four years due to historical grievances and resource allocation issues.

According to a report by adomonline.com, on July 16, 2025, the chiefs emphasised the importance of dialogues, unity, and reconciliation, urging all sides to set aside past grievances for the greater good of the municipality.

“We must not allow the pain of the past to define our future. Our people deserve peace, and it is our responsibility as leaders to make that a reality,” Nana Monfankye Amanfo said.

He also highlighted the cultural and historical ties that bind the communities, calling on all leaders to focus on shared values and collective development.

His message was supported by Nana Okajah and Nana Kidesa, who both noted that lasting peace is essential for the growth and stability of the area.

As part of the peace-building process, the chiefs have proposed a series of community engagement activities, particularly involving the youth, who have been significantly affected by the conflict, the report added.

The talks are expected to continue in the coming weeks, with all parties’ hopeful of reaching a comprehensive and lasting resolution.

The chiefs expressed optimism that through open dialogue and collaboration, lasting peace and unity in Nkwanta can be achieved.
