Choose Adutwum to put your best foot forward – Odike Tells NPP

Founder of the Union Government (UG), Mr. Akwasi Addai Odike, has urged delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum as the party’s flag bearer for the 2028 general elections, describing him as the most credible and transformational candidate among the contenders.

Speaking to journalists in Kumasi on Tuesday, Mr. Odike, though not a member of the NPP, said the choice of presidential candidates by major political parties should be of national concern due to the potential impact on Ghana’s future.

“Even though I will be contesting in the 2028 elections, I strongly believe that every party must present its best candidate to elevate political discourse in the country,” he noted.

Mr. Odike lauded Dr. Adutwum’s tenure as Education Minister, citing his integrity, innovation, and visionary leadership.

He said Dr. Adutwum’s achievements in introducing and promoting STEM and TVET education were clear indicators of his capacity to lead the nation.

“If Dr. Adutwum could transform the education sector as a minister, imagine what he could do with the entire country as President,” he stated.

He also expressed concern over the increasing monetisation of Ghanaian politics, cautioning that vote-buying among delegates could result in the selection of less competent leaders.

“I’ve observed how various camps within the NPP are backing their preferred candidates. It is my hope that money will not be the deciding factor. The future of Ghana depends on the choices we make today,” Mr. Odike warned.

He stressed that selecting a presidential candidate should not be a partisan affair but a matter of national interest, adding that he would equally share his thoughts when the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) begins its flag bearer selection process.

“Every candidate elected by either the NPP or NDC is a potential president. Ghanaians must therefore take an active interest in the internal elections of these parties,” he said.

Mr. Odike, therefore urged NPP delegates to consider Dr. Adutwum’s proven track record, character, and leadership credentials, describing him as the party’s best bet for victory and national development in 2028.
