Some concerned members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Lower Manya Krobo Constituency of the Eastern Region have made a passionate appeal to President John Mahama to appoint, David Walter Hormenu, the former Constituency chairman to the MCE position.
The group at a press conference on Friday, April 11, 2025 expressed their gratitude to the national executive body of the party for Mr. Hormenu’s inclusion in the final race for the revered position.
17 individuals filed to contest for the position and subsequently offered themselves for vetting at the regional vetting process with four applicants being shortlisted for consideration for the position.
Spokesperson of the group, Bright Teye Terkper believes Mr. Hormenu stands tall among the rest, appealing to President Mahama to reward loyalty, experience and community service, virtues he said befits the former chairman.
Citing his “consistent presence at the community level, depth of institutional memory and wealth of leadership experience,” as his key attributes to justify their call, Mr. Terkper noted that Mr. Horrmenu’s political and community service record remains exceptional.
“His consistent presence at the community level, depth of institutional memory and wealth of leadership experience, make him the ideal candidate to lead the assembly at this crucial moment of resetting and rebuilding,” he emphasized.
Mr. David Walter Hormenu is a former assembly man, a former presiding member for the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly, a two-term constituency chairman and the deputy Eastern Regional coordinator of the Volta Caucus, a position he currently holds.
His advocates argued that the appointment of the two term party chairman would not only be timely but a due recognition of “long-standing loyalty, unmatched dedication and grassroot service to the people.”
They furthered that Mr. Horrmenu’s appointment would be a morale booster for the youth who revere the astute politician as a mentor, a father and a leader who can best empathize with their struggles.
They stressed that his leadership would not only deepen engagements with the grassroots but also stimulate inclusive development, particularly in the area of youth empowerment, job creation and education.
The group while pledging their support and readiness to support for Mr. Hormenu in the discharge of his duties if given the nod however expressed their readiness to support the appointment of any other candidate if his bid fails.
Some of the party faithful in an interview extolled Mr Hormenu’s leadership virtues, underscoring that he’s the best candidate to represent President Mahama in Lower Manya.
“He’s the best candidate that’s why we’re backing him,” said Christopher Tetteh, branch secretary for Agomanor East, emphasizing that David Walter Hormenu’s cordial relationship with the sitting MP, Mr Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi who doubles as the deputy minister for the interior, would facilitate the required development in the municipality.
Miss Mercy Amoah Ama also detailed the candidate’s invaluable commitments and contributions to the NDC.
She cited his unifying attributes and attributed the NDC’s continued grasp on the parliamentary seat to his efforts.
Residents of Lower Manya Krobo and the other 32 districts in the Eastern Region anxiously await the announcement of the president’s representatives in the coming days.
