A 45-year-old trader, who allegedly assaulted a woman, was on Wednesday granted a GH¢15,000 bail with two sureties by the Kaneshie District Court Two.

Perry Ohene Darko was arraigned for assault, but his plea was not taken.

Additionally, the Court ordered that both sureties must be residents within the jurisdiction of the court, one of them should be a civil servant, which must be justified.

Darko is to reappear on August 15, 2025.

The Prosecution prayed the Court to make him sign a bond to be of good behaviour in addition to the granting of bail.

That was after the Defence Counsel had appealed for bail, which the prosecution did not oppose.

Counsel stated that the accused person had a fixed place of abode within the jurisdiction of the Court and was ready to always appear before it.

He said he had people of substance to stand as sureties.

Madam Doris Gyamfua Asabea, the complainant, and Darko, the accused person, are traders and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

On June 25, 2025, both attended a programme held by the NPP at the Party Headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra.

After the Programme, Darko confronted Madam Asabea over an alleged video on social media in which Asabea was allegedly insulting the General Secretary of the Party.

A misunderstanding ensued between them, during which Darko physically attacked Madam Asabea.

She complained to the police, and a medical form was issued to her to seek medical treatment.

Based on the medical report, Darko was arrested, but he denied the offence in his cautioned statement.

However, police investigations revealed that Darko physically attacked and assaulted Madam Asabea in the presence of witnesses.

He was, therefore, charged with the offence and arraigned.
