Court orders defied as landowners cry for justice

The land continues to be encroached on besides court decisions The land continues to be encroached on besides court decisions

A prominent Ghanaian couple, Dr and Dr Mrs Lokko, have raised alarm over what they describe as a blatant and unlawful encroachment on their legally acquired land, despite multiple court injunctions in their favour.

The Lokkos, who have owned and developed the land for over 20 years, say they are being forced to watch helplessly as construction crews, allegedly backed by some senior police officers, erect multi-storey buildings on the property in defiance of court orders.

“We followed the law. We went to court. We did everything right,” a visibly distressed Dr Lokko told reporters. “Now, we watch helplessly as notorious land grabbers destroy everything we’ve built, right under the nose of the police.”

A private investigation commissioned by the couple has reportedly uncovered the identities of key individuals behind the illegal construction.

Footage obtained by the investigators shows these individuals actively coordinating work on-site, in direct violation of court injunctions.

More alarming is the presence of uniformed police officers seen in a footage accompanying the trespassers, prompting serious questions about collusion and corruption within the police service.

“They name-drop powerful people and dare us to act,” said a source close to the investigation. “They behave as if they are untouchable.”

Once well-maintained space nurtured by the Lokkos, the Dzornaman land is now described as a construction war zone. Four large buildings have already been erected. The couple fears these structures may soon be sold to unsuspecting buyers, further complicating the legal battle and frustrating any future efforts to reclaim their property.

Despite securing two separate injunctions from the courts, the Lokkos say enforcement has been weak or nonexistent. Repeated petitions to the police to intervene and secure the land have reportedly gone unanswered.

In their most recent petition, the couple demanded:

• Immediate police intervention to seal off the property

• Disciplinary action against officers allegedly aiding the trespassers

“All we ask is for the police to enforce a lawful order of the court,” the Lokkos emphasized in their petition. “This is not just about our land, it’s about the sanctity of the rule of law.”

As the legal process continues, the Lokkos and concerned citizens are urging the authorities to act decisively.
