The Minister of Defence and former Director of Elections for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, has revisited the party’s long-standing impasse with the Electoral Commission (EC).
In the lead-up to the 2024 elections, the NDC raised concerns over suspected manipulation of the voters’ register, allegedly to aid the New Patriotic Party (NPP) win the polls.
The party organized a nationwide demonstration, calling on the EC to enable a forensic audit of the register to flush out irregularities.
In a social media post on Tuesday, April 1, the Defence Minister reaffirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring electoral integrity, stating that those responsible for the alleged manipulation would be held accountable.
“The quest for an independent, fair, and transparent Electoral Commission Ghana is not lost on us. The integrity of the voters’ register will be paramount.”
He emphasized that the individuals behind the alleged fraudulent activities would not go unpunished.
“The criminals who systematically manipulated the voters’ register will face justice. The printer(s) who printed the additional illegal ballot papers and their accomplices will be brought to justice.”
The Defence Minister further assured Ghanaians that the government remains focused on key governance reforms while working to restore the country’s economic stability.
“While we reset Ghana and the economy to create jobs, key critical governance deliverables will not elude us!” he noted.
