Dame should confess, ask for forgiveness of his sins in ambulance case — Edudzi Tamakloe

Director of Legal Services for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, says former Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, must confess and seek God’s forgiveness over his role in the now-concluded ambulance case.

Mr Tamakloe, who is also the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), said the conduct of the former Attorney-General was painful and should never be repeated.

“I have always maintained that in good conscience, Godfred Yeboah Dame — if he is a Catholic — should get a Roman Father and possibly do a confession and ask for forgiveness of sins.

“You don’t know the conspiracy that Godfred built to put Ato Forson in jail at all cost. It is a painful episode and that should never happen again,” he said on Accra-based TV3’s KeyPoints show on Saturday, May 24.

His comments come after a petition was filed at the General Legal Council (GLC) by private citizen Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah, seeking sanctions against Mr Dame for alleged professional misconduct during the trial involving Minority Leader and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and businessman Richard Jakpa.

The petitioner claims a leaked audio between Mr Dame and Mr Jakpa — admitted into evidence by an Accra High Court — exposes attempts by the former Attorney-General to influence Mr Jakpa’s testimony, in violation of legal ethics.

Mr Jakpa also testified that he met Mr Dame on four occasions at a private residence and exchanged WhatsApp messages with him — some reportedly involving requests for documents — all without the knowledge of his lawyer, while the case was ongoing.

Citing the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 2020 (L.I. 2423), the petitioner accuses Mr Dame of breaching seven key ethical standards, including dishonesty, misrepresentation, and improper communication with a represented party.

Other allegations include attempting to improperly influence a witness, compromising the justice process, and conduct likely to bring disrepute to the legal profession.
