The Deputy Minister for the Interior, Mr. Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, has urged the newly appointed Governing Board of the National Peace Council (NPC) to serve with integrity and proactiveness to uphold Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of peace in the West African sub-region.

Speaking at an orientation ceremony for the new board members on Tuesday in Accra, the Deputy Minister emphasised the NPC’s critical role in fostering dialogue, resolving conflicts, and promoting social cohesion.

Mr. Terlabi pointed out to the board members that their selection was based on their experience, credentials, and commitment to serve with wisdom and patriotism.

“You have been called to serve at a time when the need for peace, dialogue, and social cohesion is paramount to foster our development as a country,” he said.

The Deputy Minister reiterated that the Ministry of the Interior and the Government remain committed partners, recognising the National Peace Council as a key ally in maintaining internal peace and security.

He assured the board that the Ministry will continue to provide the NPC with the institutional support and policy guidance necessary to effectively carry out its mandate.

He also urged the board to maintain neutrality and credibility, particularly when addressing sensitive issues such as chieftaincy disputes, political tensions, and promotion of interfaith cooperation and youth engagement.

The Chairman of the Board, Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, expressed the board’s commitment to working collaboratively to preserve peace in the country, despite the challenges that lie ahead.

Most Rev. Fianu further noted that the board members would leverage their expertise and bring fresh perspectives to their roles, contributing meaningfully to the NPC’s mission to promote peace and stability in Ghana.
