Alima Silver, the Women’s Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) New York branch, has called on the leadership of the NDC and President H.E. John Dramani Mahama to consider the vital role of diaspora communities in future political appointments.

Silver’s appeal underscores the importance of recognising and integrating the contributions of Ghanaians living abroad into the political framework of the party.

According to Silver, members of the diaspora have played an instrumental role in supporting the NDC, particularly during recent electoral campaigns. “Their financial contributions and grassroots mobilisation efforts have been essential to the party’s successes,” she noted.

“The members of our diaspora community have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the NDC’s vision and goals. Their dedication has been instrumental in our electoral successes,” Silver stated.

Silver emphasised that including individuals from the diaspora in political appointments would not only acknowledge their efforts but also strengthen the party’s connection with Ghanaians living overseas.

“Our diaspora is rich with talent, expertise, and diverse perspectives that can greatly benefit our governance and policy-making processes. It is essential that we harness this potential as we work towards national development,” she asserted.

Silver urged the NDC leadership to actively engage with diaspora communities and consider their insights when making decisions about appointments.

“We must ensure that all voices are heard and represented, particularly those who have been steadfast supporters of the party from afar,” she concluded.

This call for inclusion reflects a growing sentiment among diaspora members who seek greater representation in Ghana’s political landscape. As the NDC continues to build on its achievements, recognising and empowering all segments of its support base is crucial for fostering a more inclusive and representative political environment.

Silver’s advocacy serves as a reminder of the significant role that Ghanaians abroad play in shaping the future of the nation. By embracing their contributions, the NDC can not only enhance its governance but also strengthen its ties with a vital segment of its constituency.
