Dr Owusu Achena, who was awarded an honorary doctorate by the International Kingdom University on 21st February 2025, has assured patrons of the Kwahu Easter festivities of prompt and high-quality emergency and pre-hospital care services at Nkawkaw and beyond.

He affirmed that he and his team are well-prepared to ensure safety throughout the celebrations. Expressing confidence in the event, he described this year’s festivities as safe, fun-filled, and electrifying, encouraging tourists to make the trip.

SHT Prince Owusu Achena serves as the Nkawkaw Municipal Director for the National Ambulance Service. Born in Takoradi, Prince spent much of his formative years relocating between military bases due to his father’s service as an aero-electrical engineer in the Ghana Armed Forces.

He lived at the Takoradi Airforce Base, Tamale Air Force, and Burma Camp, an upbringing that instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, resilience, and adaptability.

His mother, a talented seamstress, along with the closeness of his younger siblings, nurtured his empathy, selflessness, and moral character—traits that continue to define his leadership today.

Following his father’s voluntary retirement, the family settled in Kumasi, where Prince distinguished himself academically and demonstrated natural leadership. He was appointed as the junior secondary school prefect and later gained admission to the prestigious Prempeh College, where he pursued business studies.

His professional journey began at Coca-Cola’s production depot in Kumasi, where he developed a solid work ethic.

He later joined Intercom Security Services before transitioning to the Ghana National Fire Service.

In the aftermath of the tragic May 9th stadium disaster in 2000 under President J.A. Kufuor’s administration, plans for a national emergency service were set in motion.

During this time, Prince was seconded to the emergent National Ambulance Service. Over the years, his grit, compassion, professionalism, and interpersonal skills earned him increasing responsibilities.

He successfully established the Ejisu Ambulance Station, later moved on to Winneba to set up one of the Central Region’s first two ambulance stations, and continued to make his mark in Kyebi by building another high-performing station.

Recognised as a dependable problem-solver, Mr Achena was later transferred to Nkawkaw by the CEO of the National Ambulance Service, Prof Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah, to revitalise one of Ghana’s original eight ambulance stations.

Under his leadership, Nkawkaw regained its former glory as a top-performing station.

He has led the construction of a dedicated washroom facility and acquired land for an ultra-modern ambulance facility. He is also a World Health Organization-trained EMS Facilitator, currently pursuing a Master’s degree in ICT Management, having already obtained a Bachelor’s degree in ICT.

A disciplined, empathetic, and hardworking professional, Mr Prince Owusu Achena is not only committed to the growth of emergency medical services in Kwahu West and beyond, but also to positively impacting lives.

Married with four children, he continues to lead with integrity and passion. As a deserving recipient of an honorary doctorate in Executive Leadership and an expert in emergency care, his assurance that this year’s Kwahu Easter will be an unforgettable experience carries great weight.
