Former Minister of Education and sitting Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has officially declared his intention to contest the flagbearer position of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Making the announcement via social media on Tuesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum stated his readiness to lead the party into a new era, a day after the NPP’s National Council fixed January 31, 2026 as the date for the presidential primaries.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the Flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he announced.
Though the party has yet to open nominations, Dr. Adutwum’s declaration positions him among the earliest to express interest in succeeding the NPP’s current leadership following the party’s defeat in the 2024 elections.
