Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, has moved to calm growing tensions surrounding school feeding contracts, firmly denying any involvement by First Lady Lordina Mahama and warning against the unauthorised use of her name to influence contract decisions.
Dr Amoakohene addressed the issue following a meeting with constituency chairmen and women organizers, including the regional women organiser.
The meeting was in response to allegations that some “strangers” were claiming to have secured school feeding contracts in various districts, claims that sparked anger among some NDC women organisers and supporters who felt sidelined despite their dedication and work for the party.
Reports also indicated that certain individuals were falsely invoking the First Lady’s name to back their claims.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Dr Amoakohene outlined steps being taken to resolve the matter and issued a stern warning to those misrepresenting themselves.
“Hearsay is a dangerous thing that can bring calamity,” said Dr Amoakohene. “After listening to their concerns, we realized these issues weren’t meant for the media. We’ll meet with constituencies still facing issues to resolve the problems, especially now that we’re swearing in new MMDCEs.”
He explained that delays in the school feeding program were due to the fact that the Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), who play a key role in the program’s implementation—were not yet in office.
Addressing allegations involving the First Lady, Dr Amoakohene stated, “There were a lot of issues in which many people were dragging the First Lady, Maa Lordina’s name into, and that is very unfortunate. We are advising that people shouldn’t be using her name as though she’s part of this brouhaha. She is our mother, and there’s no way she would do anything to harm the feelings of others.”
He continued, “Some people, out of greed and desperation, will try to use the names of great people to achieve their evil agenda. Maa Lordina is innocent, and people should let her name rest. I have warned that no one should believe anyone who comes to them invoking Maa Lordina’s name.”
The Regional Minister also offered a public apology to the First Lady, “I am also using this opportunity to beg Maa Lordina for forgiveness. We are her children, and she should forgive us for people dragging her innocent name into their agenda.”
Dr Amoakohene concluded by advising the public to refrain from dragging innocent leaders’ names into personal matters, stressing the importance of vigilance, respect, and integrity.
