Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 Vice Presidential candidate, has once again demonstrated his longstanding commitment to philanthropy by donating food items to mental health patients and vulnerable children in Kumasi.

The donation took place on Monday, June 9, 2025, at three key facilities: the Edweanse Rehabilitation Center, the Cheshire Rehabilitation Home, and the Kumasi Children’s Home.

The items donated included 30 bags of rice, 9 bags each of maize, beans, and gari, 18 bags of sugar, 30 boxes of tinned tomatoes, 18 boxes of cooking oil, 30 boxes of canned mackerel, 30 packs of assorted soft drinks, and 30 boxes of biscuits. These supplies were distributed across the three institutions.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as “Napo,” conducted the donations in stages, underscoring his deep concern and support for society’s most vulnerable. Known for his regular acts of kindness, this gesture is part of an ongoing philanthropic tradition he has maintained for the past two decades. It is a support he extends three times annually, providing not only food but also essential supplies such as medications, sandals, and books.

Speaking at the Kwadaso Edweanse Rehabilitation Center, Napo reflected on his long-standing commitment to the cause, recalling how his support began during his days in medical school.

He remarked, “I always pray for God’s blessings so that I will be able bless others in return,” and pledged to continue visiting the centers to offer even more assistance.

Rita Adjei, Manageress of the Edweanse Rehabilitation Center, expressed heartfelt appreciation for the donation. She noted that Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s contributions are not politically motivated but rather “it’s his way of life.” She described the support as a significant relief for the center’s management.

Public Health Officer at the Cheshire Rehabilitation Home, Harriet Osei-Wusu, also voiced her gratitude.

“We can’t thank him enough,” she remarked in an interview with reporters. She praised Dr. Napo as a reliable and consistent supporter, adding, “he always responds without hesitation anytime we call on him for help.”

At the Kumasi Children’s Home, Assistant Manager Cletus Frimpong Osei Kwarteng also extended appreciation to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for reaching out to support the children, describing the gesture as timely and deeply impactful.
