Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam has officially taken over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), with his appointment taking effect on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
He replaces Dr. Opoku Ware Ampomah, whose tenure concluded in October 2024. Since then, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere, Director of Medical Affairs, had been acting in the role.
With more than 20 years of medical and leadership experience at KBTH, Dr. Adam brings deep institutional knowledge and expertise to the position. He joined the hospital in 2003 as a Consultant Eye Surgeon, specializing in glaucoma, cataract, and refractive surgery. Since 2017, he has served as the Head of the Lions International Eye Centre, helping it emerge as a leading facility in the subregion.
Dr. Adam is a Fellow of the Ghana College of Surgeons and an active member of several professional bodies, including the Ophthalmological Society of Ghana, the Turkish Ophthalmology Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. His contributions to clinical research have earned recognition in both local and international peer-reviewed journals.
As CEO, Dr. Adam is expected to lead Korle Bu in its efforts to deliver world-class healthcare, strengthen research output, and enhance training for medical professionals. His appointment comes at a critical time as the hospital rolls out its Legacy Project—a long-term initiative aimed at modernizing healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across Ghana.
Sharing his vision for the hospital’s future, Dr. Adam affirmed, “Together, we can build a better Korle Bu,” highlighting his focus on teamwork and shared responsibility in transforming the institution.
