Jeff Konadu Addo, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has paid a moving tribute to the late Ernest Yaw Kumi, former Member of Parliament for Akwatia, describing him as an astute politician and dedicated peacemaker.
Ernest Yaw Kumi passed away on July 7th at the tragically young age of 40.
Speaking to journalists on Monday, Jeff Konadu Addo emphasised that the former Akwatia lawmaker would be remembered for his tireless efforts in promoting peace and unity within the party and his constituency. The Regional Chairman lauded the late Ernest Yaw Kumi’s diplomatic approach to politics, noting his preference for constructive dialogue and argument over personal attacks or insults.
“His commitment to the NPP party and his constituents was unwavering, and his loss is felt deeply by all,” Konadu Addo stated, highlighting the profound impact of Ernest Yaw Kumi’s passing.
Recounting the suddenness of the former MP’s death, the Chairman revealed that Ernest Yaw Kumi had been admitted to Lister Hospital on Sunday night after complaining of heart pains. Despite receiving treatment and reportedly being in good condition, Ernest Yaw Kumi unexpectedly passed away on Monday. The chairman noted the heartbreaking timing, stating that the death occurred just 30 minutes after his wife had left his side to seek permission from her workplace to attend to him.
Jeff Konadu Addo described Ernest Yaw Kumi’s death as “shocking and untimely,” particularly given his energetic and active engagement in both his parliamentary duties and constituency work.
Extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, Jeff Konadu Addo affirmed that the NPP has suffered an “irreparable loss” with the passing of a “truly exceptional leader, whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.”
The Regional Chairman concluded by informing journalists that the party would engage with the deceased’s family in the coming days to determine the next steps regarding funeral arrangements and memorial services.
