Contract workers used for Ghana’s December 2024 general elections are still awaiting payment from the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC).
Despite assurances of prompt payment after the elections, the workers have faced a three-month delay, causing significant financial difficulties.
The affected workers, whose remuneration ranges between GH¢800 and GH¢2000 depending on their job descriptions, have appealed to President John Mahama to intervene and ensure they receive their pay.
Speaking on Otec FM’s morning show “Nyansapo”, hosted by Isaac Osei Akoto, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, under anonymity, one of the affected workers expressed frustration over the delay and urged the EC to fulfill its obligation.
According to him, the payment delay “is not only causing financial difficulties for the workers but also threatening to deter others from participating in future EC assignments.”
“After the elections in December, we have made several calls at the EC to pay the allowances they assured us when they recruited, but no response, putting us into financial difficulties,” he lamented.
He wondered why the EC, whose budget for the elections was approved by Parliament, and yet the electoral body have failed to pay them.
“We would like President John Mahama to intervene to ensure our allowances are paid to ease our financial challenges,” he passionately appealed.
